This study aims to compare different approaches for estimating the RUSLE Cover Management (C) Factor and to evaluate the impact of various cover management (C) and Support Practice (P) scenarios on soil loss. Our focus is a heterogeneous, non-arable region in the Romanian Subcarpathians, which encompasses a diverse range of land cover and land-use types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accurate mapping at local level of the potential soil loss rates provides useful particular value to policy makers in searching for sustainable soil-use solutions, while the scenario-based analysis proves the effects of different land management practices over soil loss rates, as a decision-making instrument for sustainable management strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Commission on Continental Erosion (ICCE) Symposium 2024: Sensitivity of erosion and sediment transport to recent climate change, Eichstatt-Ingolstadt, Germany<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The aim of our study is to assess the historical and present-day status of soil erosion rates for the last 35 years in searching for future possible evolution trajectory of soil erosion, based on different directions the land cover might follow, beyond the climatic change trend which is already taken into account. Our results show an overall decrease in soil loss rates during the last 35 years, up to 50 % in some areas, as an effect of the land abandonment process or by reducing the agricultural and industrial exploitation, while the scenario-based analysis proves the effects of different land management practices over soil loss rates evolution. The analysis of the evolution trajectory of soil erosion rates under different conditions is a necessary step forward to identify predictive changes in soil erosion, as a decision-making tool for sustainable management strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our PI participated at the Wageningen Soil Conference between August 28th and September 2nd 2023, being one of the best conferences in soil sciences. Results from our projected were presented, regarding soil erosion mapping based on multitemporal and multisensory approach.
