Previous contributions show warning loss rates of soil resource for the EU territory: a total annual soil loss of 950 megatons, with an average rate of 2.4 t/ha/yr, smaller than the one for Romania of 3 t/ha/yr (EC, JRC), increasing values featuring areas with high dynamics of the land cover/use pattern. The project aims to develop an integrated approach for soil erosion mapping and modelling in temperate regions from Romania, based on remote sensing (RS) data and GIS techniques. The research is organised between three main levels: (1) a RS and GIS-based potential soil erosion modelling approach, in order to quantify the potential soil loss rates for specific temporal moments, to analyse the potential soil erosion changes and predict future trends; (2) a RS-based soil erosion mapping approach for detecting the spatial locations and intensity classes of the affected areas, by integrating various Earth Observation imagery and data mining techniques; (3) an integrated approach for land cover/use – soil erosion relationship analysis through in-situ measurements. The main outcomes (methodologies and geospatial database on national and local levels) represent essential and required instruments among scientists and policy-makers for decision making and sustainable space planning.

//

Eroziunea solurilor, unul dintre cele mai răspândite hazarde la scară globală, este un proces dinamic ce determină pierderi importante ale orizontului superior de sol, bogat în materie organică.
